Natural Turquoise Cabochon
A finely cut turquoise cabochon, well polished, with rich colour and distinctive markings.
The front of the stone has been polished to a vitreous lustre. The back has been polished for smoothness, so has a dull lustre.
The colour of turquoise can vary depending on the amount of iron and other minerals present. It forms within existing rocks over thousands of years.
The dark, spidery veins are remnants of the host rock in which the mineral formed.
Being soft and fragile, turquoise can be a difficult stone to cut and must be handled carefully.
