Raw Black Obsidian - Mexico
Two impressive pieces of black obsidian, both individually chosen for our collection.
Obsidian is a natural volcanic glass that forms when lava cools so rapidly that crystals have insufficient time to grow.
Being a naturally occurring, non-crystalline solid, obsidian is correctly known as a mineraloid.
It often contains minute inclusions, which can be traces of other minerals, gas bubbles, or flow lines. These can sometimes be visible in strong light or with closer inspection.
Both pieces are unique and exhibit their own characteristics. Number 1 in the dropdown menu is the black obsidian in the first four photos.
