Rhodochrosite Cabochon - Premium-Grade Gemstone
This fine-grade rhodochrosite cabochon has been fully polished. It exhibits excellent colour and distinctive markings.
The stone is slightly translucent and has been finely cut.
Although the top and bottom have been finely polished, one edge has not been polished quite as well as it should have been. Although not noticeable, this small section feels very slightly rougher than it should. For this reason, this rhodochrosite cabochon is being offered at a reduced price.
The stone has a silky-smooth texture and vitreous lustre, so reflects light in a similar way to glass.
The mineral rhodochrosite is best known for its pinkish-red colour. Material used for lapidary purposes tends to exhibit distinctive white markings.
Most of the world's rhodochrosite comes from South America, but it can also be found in the USA and South Africa.
Despite its popularity, rhodochrosite is very soft, so it must be handled carefully. This can make cutting and polishing more difficult, especially on gemstones that have been finely cut.
